Void Location - Bernalillo, New Mexico

Every construction company knows the potential harms that voids pose, not to mention the setbacks they can cause to the project. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Albuquerque recently helped Vineyard Homes LLC with a refurbishment project. There was cracking on an existing concrete slab and along many of the interior walls. They wanted to know if there were any more of these potential voids and how big the existing ones were. The technician on site was able to locate other voids, which helped them decide whether or not to fill the voids or tear up the current slab.

Concrete sonar is a great technology for locating conduits, reinforcing steel and voids in slab on grade concrete because it only needs access to one side of the concrete. This non-destructive test also doesn’t emit any harmful radiation which means the test can be performed around bystanders, unlike traditional x-ray. The concrete imaging technology is extremely portable making it easy to perform several scans allowing contractors to locate a safe place to perform their concrete cuts.
